Spoilers for Euphoria season 2 episode 3: Is there a new strategy in the works for Rue?
Rue will do her bit to face responsibility next week on Euphoria season 2 episode 3 — but not in the way you would anticipate.
The program is likely to get quite meta, based on some of the first details we’ve seen and the ad for what’s coming. One thing we’ve learned in life is that everyone wants to be the hero of their own story, which comes with its own set of expectations. We’re discussing the Zendaya persona through the perspective of a Spider-Man quote like “with great power comes tremendous responsibility,” which is ironic. Rue, on the other hand, appears to recognize that others want her to be a hero and do the right thing. Staying clean is a component of that.
The irony here is that Rue made it apparent that she had no intention of staying clean. She’d never lied to anyone about what she wanted to do with her life in the past. For some folks, that isn’t going to be enough.
Rue does mention in the teaser that she has a plan — a business opportunity, if you will — while she faces some of these demons. Whatever that is, we’ll have to wait and see.
Overall, we’d say that season 2, episode 2, was a major mental exploration. However, we might see an increased investigation of people’s activities in the future. Rue is ambitious in her own right, and she wants to channel part of her ambition toward a greater goal. Is she, however, fleeing from something she can’t get away from? With this character, there will be a point of no return sooner or later; all we have to do now is wait and see when it happens.
