8 Arrested in Operation Targeting Violent Crime in Carlsbad

In a Carlsbad operation aimed at reducing violent crime, eight people were detained.

EDDY COUNTY, NEW MEXICO — An operation involving federal and local officials on Wednesday resulted in the recovery of a considerable amount of drugs and illicit guns, as well as the arrest of eight people.

The one-day operation, according to a press release from the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office, was aimed at lowering violent crime in Carlsbad.

Manuel Montoya, 41, Sam Chavez, 34, Daniella Samaniego, 28, Freddie Trevino, 20, Jorge Torres, 34, Lupe Contreras, 43, Ronnie Wabbington, 22, and Timothy Ziegler, 41, were among those detained.

Two weapons, 20 grams of fentanyl, 93 grams of methamphetamine, and 11 grams of heroin, were recovered in addition to the arrests. A total of 25 traffic stops were made throughout the operation, resulting in 22 citations.
