The Rookie Is About to Make Its Fans Mad in Season 5

The Rookie Is About to Make Its Fans Mad in Season 5

The Rookie has distinguished itself from other procedurals and policing programs by putting characters ahead of cases. As a result, compared to other dramas, its primary characters have grown considerably more. Almost every character on the ABC series now has their own plot, love interest, problems, and objectives, and the variety of characters has continued to improve the show.

The Rookie’s fourth season maintained that pattern and accomplished a number of things well. The series’ premise was upheld with the introduction of rookie cop Thorsen. While this was going on, Harper and Nolan began relationships that completely changed the course of their characters. The most significant change, though, was appointing Nolan as a training officer. Fans of The Rookie believe they know what will happen in Season 5, even though many of those plot lines are still ongoing. However, the show might be preparing to take a surprising turn.

John Nolan: Will He Make a Poor Training Officer?

The class’s Rookie Nolan

Officer John Nolan served as the protagonist of The Rookie when it first began. To join the Los Angeles Police Department as an officer, he had relocated across the country. The focus was on him and his character growth, but as the other rookies around him gained prominence, Nolan lost prominence. He was even seen by some viewers as the series’ weakest link. When he sought to be a training officer in Season 4, though, things started to shift. Even when he and his pretend Rookie engaged in a gunfight in the Season 4 finale, he received a taste of training. Nolan will be able to take on the role of a full-fledged training officer in Season 5 of The Rookie because of a change in the show’s premise. Apparently, that trial run didn’t scare him off.

Fans anticipate Nolan to be fantastic too, but will he be? He’s had a really laid-back and charming attitude over the course of four seasons, but that may not transition well to a TO role. In that capacity, he will need to take the initiative and possibly correct his learner on a frequent basis. It would be interesting to see if he can strike a balance between his personality and his responsibilities as a strict instructor. He will be doing his pupil a disservice if he is too gentle, but if he is too domineering, it won’t be healthy for him or others around him. Nolan won’t succeed as a TO if he can’t make a largely smooth transition into his new position.

Chenford: Is It Really Permanent?

Chen and Bradford’s fans received a Chenford Kiss in The Rookie’s Finale.

Fans have yearned for Chenford since The Rookie first came out. Over the first few seasons, Officer Bradford served as Officer Chen’s too, but their romantic chemistry was clear. Naturally, The Rookie has taken its time to bring the two of them together, but Season 4’s conclusion hinted at some interesting developments. They practiced their PDA because they were getting ready to go undercover as a couple, sparks sparked, and fans immediately went crazy. Though it appears like it’s only a matter of time before they get together, the likelihood of Chenford lasting feels remote.

It seems like the two of them getting together would be the perfect way to wrap up a character arc, similar to Ziva and Tony DiNozzo on NCIS. Tony and Ziva’s relationship was long-awaited by fans, but it waited until they were both absent from the screen. Similar to Chen and Bradford, it seems that they are going to start dating, but there is no chance that everything will go smoothly from this point on. Short-term, unsuccessful pairings have been the show’s standard operating procedure. Angela and Wesley are the show’s already-famous successful couple. Fans might rage if Chenford disintegrates, but it would build drama for Season 5 and provide a different “will they, won’t they” scenario for the characters.
