Officials Identify Man Found Dead at Scene of Officer-Involved Shooting

Officials have identified the guy who was discovered dead at the site of an officer-involved shooting.

The Attorney General’s Office said Sunday that a man found deceased after an officer-involved shooting late Saturday in Walpole has been identified. In a press release, authorities stated Christopher Tkal, 57, of Walpole, was discovered “dead at the site of the incident.”

Police received a 911 call and responded to an allegation of domestic violence at 1461 County Road in Walpole at 11:14 p.m. on Saturday. The initial responders were New Hampshire State Police troopers, who had an altercation with a person inside the house named Tkal.

One trooper fired his firearm during the altercation, according to authorities. Tkal’s corpse was discovered with a loaded firearm below it. Tkal died of several gunshot wounds, according to an autopsy performed by Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg on Sunday.

Homicide was ruled to be the cause of death.

According to the press release, “no cops have been physically hurt, and there is no danger to the public.” The identity of the trooper engaged in the incident is being kept under wraps until a formal interview is completed. Body cameras and cruiser cameras were not available to the first responders.

The event is still being investigated. Additional details will not be published until the trooper’s official interview, which is scheduled sometime this week.
