Jennifer Garner Named Woman of the Year by Hasty Pudding Theatricals

Hasty Pudding Theatricals has selected Jennifer Garner Woman of the Year.

Jennifer Garner has been selected Woman of the Year by Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals, which recognized her not just for her acting career but also for her work as a philanthropist and businesswoman.

Garner, 49, will be honored with a procession around Harvard Square, followed by a roast during which she will get her pudding pot, according to a statement from the theatrical group.

Hasty Pudding Theatricals, which goes back to 1844 and claims to be the world’s third oldest theatrical company, created the Woman of the Year award in 1951 to reward those who have made “long-term and significant contributions to the world of entertainment.” Meryl Streep, Katharine Hepburn, Ethel Merman, and Cher were among the past winners, as was Viola Davis last year.

The procession will take place on February 5, which is also the opening night of the group’s most recent performance.

“We are thrilled to celebrate Jennifer Garner, the first Woman of the Year to be honored on Opening Night,” said co-producer Molly Chiang. “I can’t wait to meet her since ’13 Going on 30′ was my favorite movie as a kid.”

For her portrayal as Sydney Bristow in the television espionage series “Alias,” Garner was nominated for multiple Primetime Emmys. She has received praise for her roles in films such as “Juno,” “Dallas Buyers Club,” and “13 Going on 30.”

Garner is a Save the Children trustee who has fought for the charity on Capitol Hill and around the country to gain awareness and finances. She also co-founded the organic food firm Once Upon a Farm in 2017, with the purpose of offering high-quality food farmed using sustainable ways to children.

Last month, Jason Bateman, who portrayed Garner’s spouse in the 2007 film “Juno,” was voted Man of the Year for 2022.
