Many people were surprised when Netflix announced that the live-action adaptation Cowboy Bebop would not return for a second season. Though the series received extremely mixed reviews, it appears that a campaign has been launched in the hopes that the series, which stars John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, and Daniella Pineda, will make a comeback in the future and give the denizens of the Bebop a proper ending and a second season.
Cowboy Bebop’s live-action series debuted last year to mixed reviews, which is understandable given how popular the original anime series has become over the years. With actors such as John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, and Daniella Pineda taking on the roles of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, and Faye Valentine, many fans of the original series felt that the changes to the story and the quality of the series were not up to par. On the other hand, many fans thought the live-action series was a worthy addition to Netflix’s library and are eager to see the Bebop story concluded properly.
The petition, which began on Change.org last year, is getting closer to one hundred thousand signatures, and if it receives one hundred and fifty thousand, it will be one of the largest on the site. While this does not imply that Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop will be resurrected, it does demonstrate that the series had its fans.
While Netflix canceled Cowboy Bebop after one season, the streaming service is still going all-in on several other live-action adaptations, including Avatar: The Last Airbender, Yu Yu Hakusho, and One Piece. It remains to be seen whether the fate of Bebop will have an impact on these other series, but it is something to keep in mind as Netflix expands its presence in the world of anime through various channels.
