CMPD investigating Deadly Shooting Near Campus of UNC Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The murder of a man found shot to death at an apartment complex near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is being investigated by police.

Officers were sent just after midnight to University Village at Charlotte on Gold Rush Boulevard in response to an allegation of an assault. When police arrived, they saw numerous individuals fleeing what seemed to be a party in a panic.

“When police arrived, there was a party atmosphere — some kind of gathering,” CMPD Maj. Cecil Brisbon said. “There were individuals fleeing in a panic because they heard shots fired, and cops intercepted them as they were fleeing.”

Brisbon said officers discovered the body, who had not yet been named, outside one of the breezeway flats. He was shot and proclaimed dead at the site. Nobody else was injured.

Hundreds of cops were roping off the parking lot area and gathering evidence, as seen by Channel 9 crews. Many parents were also observed coming and trying to see whether their youngster was all OK.

The reality is that it’s traumatic for a family every time a loved one dies, “However, what you have happening on right now is people preparing for the Christmas holidays,” Brisbon told Channel 9 in an interview. “This is the time when people should truly cherish their family members, and there’s a family out there right now that won’t have that opportunity this year.”

There has been no disclosure of suspect information, and no arrests have occurred. It wasn’t apparent whether the victim was a college student.
