Ultimately, Netflix has officially confirmed the renewal of the South Korean sitcom Sweet Home for seasons 2 and 3 after a number of renewal-related hiccups. The huge announcement was kept from fans for more than a year. It has taken Netflix 18 months to formally declare that Sweet Home Season 2 is in development. The second and third seasons’ filming will take place back-to-back with a brief intermission.
Sweet Home has been renewed by Netflix for seasons 2 and 3, which will both be directed by Lee Eung-bok, the same person who directed season 1. Netflix made this confirmation to THR on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the production firm, “In these additional seasons, Sweet Home will take on a grander scale with an expanded plot and cast.”
Added Lee Eung-bok, “A fresh setting will be included in season 2. I think Season 2 will perfect the technical elements we weren’t able to polish in Season 1.”
Netflix’s VP of APAC content, Minyoung Kim, gave an explanation of the recent renewals of numerous Asian-made k-dramas.

Kim went on, “These returning shows’ diversity—ranging from zombie dread to reality dating—showcases the region’s extraordinary range of material. While fans have traditionally enjoyed genres like Japanese anime and Korean romance, these shows are breaking down linguistic and genre barriers to appeal to a wider global audience.”
One of the most acclaimed Korean dramas to watch on Netflix in December 2020 was Sweet Home. The series is based on the Kim Kan-bi and Hwang Young-chan NaverWebtoon of the same name.
