Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Renewed for Fifth and Final Season at Amazon

Amazon has renewed The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for a fifth and final season. Rachel Brosnahan’s comedy will return on Netflix/Retailer the following day for its eagerly anticipated fourth season. Producer Dan Palladino and series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino are hard at work in New York City on season five of their hit show.

According to Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has “blazed an unrivaled route” by “elevating the story we tell about women, defying norms in our business, and permanently reshaping the entertainment landscape.” It’s not only the honors that make Maisel a household name; it’s the people she developed and the delightful, creative, distinctive world she and Dan built. Prime Video has significantly benefited from the popularity of this series, and its impact will be seen for years to come. “As we approach the conclusion of this revolutionary and wonderful series, I can’t wait for fans and our global Prime Video audience to appreciate every minute.”

No specific date has been set for the premiere of Season 5. From 2017 to 2019, Maisel produced a season every year. One of the final surviving programs at the streamer approved by Roy Price’s predecessor, Salke, is Maisel. There was a public voting procedure in which fans could select which shows were made into series, although it was mainly for show. Before Salke took over as CEO, Maisel went through several executives, including Price and his No. 2 Joe Lewis.

Before the third season, the married executive producers said that they had a clear idea of the show’s path from the beginning. According to Daniel Palladino, “We have a notion emotionally where humans want the Midge persona to finish” As far as we know, we don’t know how long it’ll take.” Showrunner Sherman-Palladino has been added to the team: It was a period of discovery in the first year, unraveling in the second year, and touring in the third year. As far as Amazon was concerned, they’d already been given the “bullet points” for each season.

An understatement would be to suggest Maisel is a critical program for Amazon. The program provided a Peabody Award and an outstanding comedy series award when the streaming service sought success. Sherman-Palladino was the first individual to win Emmys in both comedy writing & comedy directing in the same year for his work on the show over its first three seasons, winning a total of 20 awards in the process. Brosnahan, too, has a slew of awards under her belt, including two Emmys and two Golden Globes. Also, Maisel was Amazon’s first program to get a multi-season order.

The demise of Maisel coincides with Amazon’s $250 million acquisition of the global rights to The Lord of the Rings series. Season one’s production cost $465 million. The program, which has already been renewed for a second season, is the most costly in television history when it debuts in September. According to Amazon’s estimates, the series will last for five seasons and produce many spinoffs.

Goliath, Transparent, Red Oaks, and Mozart in the Jungle are just some of the originals that Amazon has already wrapped up before Maisel’s demise. The streamer’s sources include The Boys, A League of Their Own, Jack Ryan, the recently renewed Reacher, and comedy As We See It.

However, the Palladinos have had two overarching partnerships with the streaming service and are now working on several additional projects.
