Deputy Kills Man Accused Of Breaking Into His Home GBI

ATLANTA, GA (CSU) — According to authorities, an officer-involved gunshot resulted in the death of a guy who was accused of breaking into the home of a Fulton County Sheriff’s deputy.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the deputy was returning home from work when his Ring security camera alerted him that a man was breaking into his southeast Atlanta house.

According to the GBI, the deputy noticed the man from the Ring video walking away from the property with tools and a number of other stolen items while still in uniform and driving his own car. According to investigators, the deputy followed the man in his car as he walked and approached him in a forested location just off the road.

The deputy shot the man during the altercation. When Atlanta police came, they discovered the deputy performing CPR on the man. Authorities said the man was transferred to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he subsequently died.

According to a statement from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, “the GBI has been asked to investigate the officer-involved shooting, and the Atlanta Police Department is investigating the situation leading up to the shooting.”

The investigation was sent to GBI detectives, who discovered that the deputy’s rear door had been kicked open, and goods seized at the scene had been taken from the deputy’s home, according to police.

According to the GBI, authorities have not recognized the individual who was slain since his family has not been notified.
