David Lee Roth Cancels Entire Farewell Residency

All of David Lee Roth’s scheduled farewell shows at the House of Blues Las Vegas have been canceled.

A representative for the venue confirmed the news to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. All of the shows on the House of Blues concert calendar have been canceled.

The former Van Halen frontman had planned to begin his Sin City residency with performances on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Those two performances were canceled just days before, with representatives citing “unforeseen circumstances related to COVID and an abundance of caution for those working and attending the shows” in a statement.

Roth has remained largely silent on the matter. The rocker’s only recent social media post is an artwork titled “A funny thing happened on the way to Las Vegas.”

Roth’s swan song was to be a Vegas residency, which was first announced in late September. “I’m tossing in the shoes.” “I’m retiring,” confessed the former Van Halen frontman to the Las Vegas Review-Journal at the time.

Roth also mentioned Eddie Van Halen’s death and his own health issues as factors in his decision. “I’m encouraged and compelled to really come to terms with how short time is, and my time is probably even shorter,” the singer said, adding that he, “thought [he] might have been the first” to die. “And my doctors, my handlers, compelled me to address the fact that every time I go on stage, I jeopardize that future.”
