PARKERSBURG — Two individuals were apprehended by Parkersburg Police on Tuesday after a car and foot pursuit.

Parkersburg Police Patrolman A.M. Rickman attempted a traffic stop on a white Dodge Intrepid in the 900 block of Emerson Avenue at 11:54 a.m., according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

Rickman said he recognized the car from last week’s theft of a box from a porch on 32nd Street.

According to the report, the car accelerated and drove north on Emerson at speeds above 100 mph. The motorist exited on Valley Mills Road and made many turns before coming to a halt on Johnson Run Road.

According to the report, the driver and a passenger then escaped on foot. Before apprehending the motorist, officers followed him over an embankment across Interstate 77 and down another embankment.

Wayne Campbell, 34, of Parkersburg, was identified as the driver, according to the post. He was charged with escaping with reckless disregard and petty larceny, and a warrant for absconding from parole was placed on him. After reportedly consuming a controlled drug during the pursuit, he was still being assessed at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center on Tuesday evening.

Michael Paul Reed, 38, of Washington, W.Va., was recognized as the passenger a short time later near Johnson Run Road, according to the post. He was accused of escaping from an officer and arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court.
