Man Charged With Similar Crimes in Baxter, Marion County Appears in Court

A guy who was convicted of aggravated assault in Marion County in July has now been charged in Baxter County with the same offense.

Matthew Karl Butler, 27, of Fayetteville, appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court on Thursday, where he entered a not guilty plea to counts of aggravated assault and criminal mischief.

Butler was arrested on December 10 after Baxter County sheriff’s officers were summoned to an address along Weyhmeyer Loop, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The scenario was said to be growing while the deputies were responding. Butler was said to have been armed with a knife and had attempted to run over a relative with his car.

Butler fled the scene on foot when the car was damaged. Butler had blood on his hands, according to a deputy who came into touch with him. According to the probable cause affidavits in both the Baxter and Marion County cases, Butler utilized a knife and his car as weapons.

Both violent incidents were reportedly caused by a domestic crisis involving a little child. Butler and a lady with whom he was previously involved have been recognized as the parents of a 2-year-old girl.

Butler informed his daughter that he was going to pick her up from a relative’s house on Weyhmeyer Loop. Butler became even more agitated when more relatives were summoned to block the evacuation.

Butler threatened with a knife at one point, then switched to a baseball bat.

He is claimed to have jumped into his car and swerved to avoid hitting a relative while speeding. He lost control of the vehicle, which collided with items in the yard of the homeowner.

According to family relatives and others, Butler is suffering from mental health issues. According to his sister, he hadn’t slept in three days. Butler stated in court that he was attempting to contact his Fayetteville lawyer to arrange for counsel.

He was told to return on January 10 to check on the status of his attorney.

CHARGES IN MARION COUNTY

Butler was also accused of threatening individuals with his truck and a knife at home on Summit Avenue in Bull Shoals in early February of last year.

Butler’s probation was set to expire in 2020, but a fresh incident in Baxter County has prompted the filing of a petition to have it revoked.

On July 13, he was sentenced to 48 months probation for the Marion County offenses. The Bull Shoals Police Department was dispatched to the scene at 10:30 p.m. to deal with the incident.

The suspect had escaped toward State Highway 178, according to a number of witnesses who were in the front yard of the house. Flippin police officers who were responding to the report came to see the suspect’s vehicle and informed the Bull Shoals officer that it might be found on Cardinal Terrace.

Butler was taken out of the automobile at gunpoint by a Bull Shoals officer who arrived on the scene. Drug paraphernalia and a tiny amount of marijuana were discovered during a check of the car. In addition, the automobile had ammo for a 9 mm handgun and a 12-gauge shotgun.

Butler disputed that a firearm was used in the Summit Avenue altercation. He said his guns had been taken following a previous arrest for narcotics and firearms possession.

Several hours before the event, he admitted to consuming marijuana and drinking beer. When the Bull Shoals officer returned to the location, he spoke with witnesses who indicated Butler’s automobile had been spotted in the area.

Butler tried to ram their car and run them down in the driveway on many occasions, according to the parents of a female with whom Butler had a kid.

Butler pulled into a neighbor’s driveway, exited his car, and pointed a black item at them, which they mistook for a weapon, they claimed. It was later discovered that it was a knife.

Butler’s child’s mother stated that she feared for her and her children’s lives. Butler had been served with a protective order to keep him away from her and the children, she said.

Butler told officers that he had been issued with the order of protection earlier that evening and was enraged by what he called the woman’s inaccurate charges about his behavior in the accompanying affidavit.

Butler stated that he didn’t intend to travel to Bull Shoals when he left a house in Flippin where he had been residing in his truck.

He said he “ended up there” and was chased out by the parents of his ex-girlfriend. During the encounter, he denied attempting to drive over anyone or waving a knife at anyone.

Butler was found guilty of aggravated assault, possession of a prohibited drug, and violating an order of protection that was in effect at the time of the occurrence.
