33-Year-Old Charged With Murder in Winston-Salem Shooting

A 33-year-old man has been arrested with felony murder in connection with the shooting death of a man in the Happy Hill neighborhood on Monday morning.

According to authorities, Justin Neil Sydenstricker was being detained in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center on Tuesday evening with no bail authorized.

Edwin Cisneros-Lopez, 20, a resident of Willow Peake Apartments in the 800 block of Pitts Street in Happy Hill, was shot and killed on Monday.

A guy opened fire on Cisneros-Lopez numerous times about 8:42 a.m., police said, after laying in wait for his victim to emerge from his apartment. Cisneros-Lopez was driven to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in a private car. Cisneros-Lopez was declared dead at the hospital soon after arriving, according to authorities.

Aside from the announcement of Sydenstricker’s arrest, officers provided no other information on Tuesday. A booking picture was also withheld since the inquiry is still ongoing.

On Monday, authorities said they were looking into a possible link between Cisneros-killing Lopez’s and the deadly weekend shooting of a 15-year-old kid. Cisneros-Lopez was a friend of Edwin Hernandez-Medina, who was discovered seriously wounded in a Timlic Avenue parking lot on Saturday. The kid was rushed by EMS to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health, where he died on Sunday as a result of his injuries.

The death of Edwin Cisneros Lopez’s murder was the 40th in Winston-Salem in 2021. In the same time frame in 2020, 29 murders were reported.
