Lordsburg Man Charged in Death of Deming Man Killed in I-10 Crash (1)

AVENTURA – According to the authorities, a Lordsburg man was engaged in a tragic car accident, thus he was charged.

The charges against 23-year-old Raymond Anthony Saucedo include abandoning the scene of a fatal accident, failing to provide information and administer aid in a fatal accident, and failing to report accidents right after.

Police think Saucedo struck Deming resident Carl Lee Johnson, 22, on September 1 near milepost 77 on Interstate 10, according to a statement of facts. In the affidavit, New Mexico State Police Officer John Falcon stated that one of Johnson’s coworkers heard the crash as Johnson, who was erecting traffic cones on I-10, was struck by a grey Ford van.

The witness claimed to have seen the vehicle slam on the brakes before pulling away.

About 20 miles west of the crash site on I-10, a different NMSP officer discovered the grey van. Saucedo was seated in. Falcon stated in the affidavit that Saucedo thought he had been stopped by the police because he had stolen a traffic cone.

He informed the authorities that he had spent the night at Las Cruces and was returning to Lordsburg. In an effort to pass another vehicle, he claimed to be driving westbound in the left lane. When he collided with what he assumed to be a traffic cone, Saucedo calculated his speed to be around 80 mph.
