Smith’s Restaurant in Springfield Closes After Owner’s Death

After the owner’s passing, Smith’s Restaurant in Springfield closed.

On Wednesday, a notice outside Smith’s Restaurant in Springfield stated that it was permanently closed “due to (unforeseen) circumstances.” According to the Bolivar Herald-Free Press, Smith’s restaurant owner Mark Smith passed away on Saturday, prompting the closure.

Smith’s is a Bolivar tradition with outposts in Collins and Clinton as well. Smith’s is renowned for its American cuisine, including its daily specials and enormous pork tenderloin sandwiches. In a former Kum & Go structure close to Incredible Pizza Company on South Campbell Avenue, the Springfield facility first opened its doors in 2019.
