Shots Fired at Colonial Beach Police Officer, Authorities Say (1)

An investigation into an incident Thursday evening in which someone fired rounds at a Colonial Beach police officer is being led by the Westmoreland Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred at 7:30 p.m., according to Sheriff C.O. Balderson and a press release from Colonial Beach police. An officer in a marked car was responding to a tip about two masked individuals running in the vicinity of Riverwood Apartments when he observed two suspicious persons and sought to make contact with them.

The guys bolted, and more cops arrived to aid in the hunt. A shooter fired four rounds in the direction of one officer on Euclid Street, according to Balderson. The cop was unharmed and did not shoot back.

Balderson said four bullet casings had been found, but it was unknown who fired the rounds and why on Friday.

If you have any information, call the Colonial Beach Police Department or the Sheriff’s Office at 804/224-7612 or 804/493-8066.
