Ps4 Production Reportedly Continuing Due to Ps5 Scarcity

According to reports, PS4 manufacture will continue due to the paucity of PS5 systems.

This fresh claim comes from a Bloomberg story, which claims that Sony has notified assembly partners that it will continue to manufacture PS4 consoles until 2022. According to reports, this translates to nearly one million additional PS4 systems being produced this year.

This is owing to the fact that the PS4 requires a far less complicated chip to manufacture than the PS5. Over the last year, there’s been no shortage of news about the paucity of advanced CPUs for current-gen console manufacture, as both Sony and Microsoft’s manufacturing targets have been hampered by a dearth of components.

Both the conventional and disc-less versions of the PlayStation 5 console have been in short supply around the world thus far. Scalpers, who have often jumped on retail listings for PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S consoles to scoop up fresh units, in some cases even employing bots to evade queues and purchase stock before it’s even put up for sale, haven’t helped the lack of consoles.

Regardless, the PS5 has become the most popular PlayStation console ever. Sony revealed in July of last year that the new-gen system has sold ten million units in just 248 days, shattering the previous record of ten million set by the PS4. It’s a good start for a platform for which Sony has already set lofty objectives.
