Police Shoot and Kill Gresham Bank Robbery Suspect

GRESHAM, Ore. (CSU) – Multnomah County Sheriff Mike Reese informed reporters at a press conference on Tuesday that police shot and killed a bank robbery suspect who opened fire on cops in Gresham.

Officers were sent to an armed robbery at the KeyBank in Gresham, which is located at Southeast Burnside Street and East Powell Boulevard, at 4:40 p.m.

According to Sheriff Reese, the suspect, a white man, fled in a vehicle with a female accomplice. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) and Gresham police officers initiated a chase.

The suspect is claimed to have driven officials to Troutdale before returning to Gresham and ended up on Northwest Civic Drive near Gresham Station Shopping Center. According to Reese, the guy fired numerous rounds at officers throughout the pursuit.

According to Reese, the suspect and his accomplice got out of the vehicle and carjacked another vehicle at one point.

An MCSO deputy and a Gresham police officer opened fire on the suspect, killing him. He was declared dead on the spot. The female suspect was captured, but Reese did not clarify what charges she was expected to face. The carjacking victim was uninjured.

The identity of those involved has not been divulged by the police.

The officer and deputy who fired their guns were placed on critical incident leave, as is standard practice.

The inquiry is being led by the East Multnomah County Major Crimes Team. The team consists of Gresham police, MCSO, Oregon State Police, the FBI, Port of Portland Police, and the district attorney’s office.
