Dominica Records Two Incidents of Homicides on New Year Eve

Dominica has seen two killings in the last 24 hours since the start of the new year. The heinous killings shocked everyone, especially because violence is on the rise in Dominica.

The first incident, according to early accounts, included an unidentified attacker attacking a 26-year-old victim named Stephan Paul Jr. The events happened in Trafalgar earlier today.

Because the man’s body had a gunshot wound, he was assaulted with pistol shots.

Officials from the police department have not provided much information about the case thus far, but they have said that an investigation is ongoing.

Miron Benjamin, a Cochrane man, was struck with a bullet and slain by an unnamed killer in another terrible killing. A man’s corpse was discovered along the Goodwill Road, near the S-Mart store and the Do It Centre, by locals.

They quickly alerted the authorities, and the corpse was identified. Officials from the police department also said that the corpse had many stab wounds. Someone had repeatedly stabbed him with a sharp-edged instrument, according to the symbol.

The investigation into the situation is ongoing, and no additional information has been released by the police.

Both occurrences surprised everyone on the islands, despite the fact that the nation has a low crime rate. According to figures from the crime rate in 2021, the country’s crime rate is 54.55 percent.

However, Dominica has had several years with the greatest incidence of killings, such as in 2017, when 19 people were brutally murdered. On the other side, terrible murders claimed the lives of 16 people in 2016.

Furthermore, the Caribbean island had the greatest number of homicides in 2017. Residents have also voiced their astonishment and sadness at the horrific tragedy.

May God bless my brother and sister, please put down the guns and knives; they do kill you, but someone has to have them in their possession; it is time for us to stop this nonsense; so many lives have been lost because of ignorance, please learn to walk away,” one of the residents, Shirley George, said. We are not paying attention to what is going on in our world today. We should put an end to it all and reflect about what Jesus Christ wants from us.”
