When a business jet carrying four persons crashed in El Cajon shortly after taking off from John Wayne Airport on Monday evening, Dec. 27, authorities reported finding no survivors.

According to Elizabeth Cory, a Federal Aviation Administration official, the collision happened at 7:15 p.m. in a suburban San Diego County area.

She stated the Learjet 35 was on its way to San Diego’s Gillespie Field Airport.

Following reports of the incident, deputies from the San Diego Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol officers, and firemen from the Lakeside Fire Protection District went to the 1200 block of Pepper Drive, according to Sheriff’s authorities.

About two miles east of the airport was the accident site. According to Cory, the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were looking into what caused the incident.

Officials said one property was damaged and electrical wires were downed, but no one was wounded on the ground.

The incident created a fire, which was put out by firefighters soon before 9 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s Office. While firemen and deputies investigated, a big debris field was spread over the road.

Two crew members and six passengers can be accommodated on the Learjet.

The identities of the four passengers aboard the plane were not immediately known.
