Westchester Police Seize Loaded Gun, Recover Stolen Car

HAWTHORNE – Two males were detained, and a stolen automobile and a loaded 9 mm pistol were seized by Westchester County Police on Wednesday after the suspects attempted to avoid capture.

A stolen car was driving northbound on Interstate 684, according to the Real-Time Crime Center at County Police Headquarters. The car was spotted, and State Police tried to stop it, but the driver refused. The County Police Aviation Unit aircraft and a County Police officer joined the State Police in pursuing the car on Interstate 84, but the chase was called off when the vehicle entered Connecticut.

County Police discovered the car going southbound on I-684 a short time later and tried a traffic stop with state troopers once again. The driver drove south on I-684, then onto the Hutchinson River Parkway, where the car collided at the I-287 intersection in Harrison. Both males exited the vehicle and fled but were arrested following a foot chase.

Angel Vasquez, 18, and Saevian Watts, 20, both of Suffolk County, were arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen goods and criminal possession of a firearm, all felonies, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, at County Police Headquarters in Hawthorne. The driver, Vazquez, was also charged with misdemeanor illegal escaping a police officer in a motor vehicle.
