Police Investigate After Skeleton Found Buried on Beach in Gqeberha

A skeleton was found partially buried at the foot of a sand dune on Sardinia Bay beach on Sunday morning, prompting police in the Eastern Cape’s Gqeberha to initiate an inquiry.

According to Walmer police, the partly buried skeleton was found by a citizen wandering near the dunes at 10:50 a.m. The police were subsequently notified, and it was established that the skeleton had been buried for some time.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu, a police spokesman, said the skeleton was between 5cm and 25cm deep in the sand and that there were no clothing or other clues that may help authorities identify the body.

The police have subsequently established a docket and are urging anybody who has reported a missing person’s case or a probable drowning to come forward.
