Montgomery County Police Chief Addresses Crime Spike

On Monday night, the chief of police in Montgomery County talked about how crimes are increasing. He talked about carjackings, robberies, and assaults.

Jones said that Montgomery County has more violent crime. Sometimes it is between people who know each other. Other times, someone knows the person who did the crime. The police are able to solve many of these crimes, but some are unsolved because they happened when someone got shot.

The police are looking for someone who shot into some businesses in Silver Spring. He said that no one was injured, but people were still scared. Jones has been doing this job for 36 years. He has seen lots of guns in his community.

Last week, the police arrested someone for stabbing someone. The person had a knife and put it on the neck of a woman. They searched her pockets and stole some things. It happened on November 3rd at 2 pm.

Jones said that auto theft is the top crime in the county right now. The police department has started a task force and is patrolling more often. They are working with the FBI and ATF to fix this crime spike.
