American Cities With the Highest Property Crime Rates

Many police departments and communities are dealing with more violence. But most crimes that don’t involve violence will not cause you much trouble.

Property crimes are the most common major crime in the United States. They are more common than any other criminal offense reported by the FBI. There are three types of property crimes: larceny, burglary, and vehicle theft.

Larceny is the unlawful taking of property. The most common forms are pickpocketing or shoplifting. Burglary is when someone enters a building to commit a crime such as theft. Vehicle theft is either taking away a vehicle or trying to take away one, like a car, motorcycle, or ATV (all-terrain vehicle).

In 2020, many crimes were reported in the United States. These crimes led to some theft of goods, only a percentage of which was recovered. Property crime is a particularly problematic problem in some American communities.

There were 6.5 million crimes in the U.S. in 2020, resulting in the theft of lots of money worth of property. Only a small fraction has been found again, but some cities have more crime than others.

Property crimes are more than twice the national rate of 1,958 incidents per 100,000 persons. The majority of these cities are in the south, with five in Arkansas and another five in South Carolina.
