Hate Crime Probe Sought in Mississippi Attempted Shooting (1)

In an attempted shooting in Mississippi, a hate crime investigation is being pursued.

RIDGELAND, Miss. (CSU) – Attorneys representing a Black delivery driver in Mississippi are requesting a federal probe into the attempted shooting of the driver. They claim it’s again another example of Black Americans being in danger while going about their daily lives.

D’Monterrio Gibson, a 24-year-old FedEx driver, was not hurt in the incident on Jan. 24. Carlos Moore, one of his lawyers, said on Thursday that he feels the police inquiry is not being taken seriously.

Two white males have been charged, but Moore believes the charges should be upgraded to attempted murder. A Justice Agency official acknowledged Thursday that the department received a request to look into the situation.
