Connecticut Teacher Accused of Leaving Children Home Alone While She Spent Weekend in Florida

A Connecticut teacher has been accused of abandoning her students at home while she spent the weekend in Florida.

WATERTOWN, CONNECTICUT (CSU) —A Connecticut mother has been accused of abandoning her two children at home for two days and two nights, according to officials.

Kerry Lyn Caviasca was arrested on January 15 and charged with two charges of endangering a child and reckless endangering.

Caviasca reportedly left the children, both under the age of 12, at home alone while she traveled out of state, according to authorities.

According to the arrest warrant, Caviasca’s former spouse discovered she had probably left the children at home from November 20 to November 22, 2021, and that they skipped school on November 22 with unexplained absences.

According to the warrant, he reportedly questioned the children whether they had been left alone that weekend, and both youngsters denied it, but he believed they were not being truthful with him. The guy then reportedly obtained access to a mobile phone and discovered several dozen messages sent between Caviasca and the youngsters during that time period.

When the children inquired what they were eating for dinner, Caviasca reportedly told them to remain downstairs and eat sweets, according to some of the messages dated Nov. 21.

According to the warrant, her ex-husband said that he dispatched his father to the house, but he was unable to communicate with anybody. Around the same time, one of the children reportedly texted Caviasca, “…do you know about the vehicle that was at the home and someone knocked on the door,” to which she answered, “no I don’t.”

According to the warrant, Caviasca informed officers that she had gone to Florida for the weekend but that her children were being cared for by her brother. According to police, they talked with her brother’s employer, who said that he was at work all three days.

Caviasca is a teacher at Waterbury Public Schools, according to school authorities. Because of the accusations, she is presently on leave.

“Waterbury Public Schools has been made aware of a pending complaint involving a Waterbury Public School employee.” Our district’s ideals are not represented by the alleged activities. The instructor has been put on administrative leave while the District investigates.”

Caviasca was freed on $5,000 bail and is due in Waterbury Superior Court on January 25.
