Nine Dead in N2 Head-On Collision in The Eastern Cape (1)

On Sunday night in the Eastern Cape, a head-on collision involving two minibus taxis claimed the lives of nine people. The accident happened between Makhanda and Nanaga on the N2.

According to Unathi Binqose of the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, a fully laden taxi traveling towards Gqeberha collided with another taxi traveling in the opposite way with only two occupants, a male, and a female.

Both the suspected couple and seven passengers from the other taxi died in the tragedy.

The injured have been transferred to a Makhanda hospital, according to Binqose, and a culpable homicide case has been opened.

“Weziwe Tikana-Gxotiwe, the Eastern Cape Transport MEC, expresses her heartfelt sympathies to the families who have lost loved ones in this catastrophe.” It’s another head-on accident, which is disturbing. Fully laden cabs were involved for the second accident in as many days.”

“Head-on crashes almost invariably indicate that one of the drivers was driving on the wrong side of the road.” When the disaster occurred, he was doing something he shouldn’t have been doing, and as a result of that one mistake, nine people have died, with a total of fifteen deaths, if you include the tragedy that occurred two days ago in Graaf Reinet. “We’re begging motorists to be patient; it’s better to arrive late than never at all,” Binqose says.

Meanwhile, three individuals, including a six-month-old baby, were killed in a head-on collision on the N4 near Rustenburg in the North West on Monday morning.

Three cars were involved in the accident, according to the province Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, including a truck carrying unprocessed platinum.

The six-month-old baby’s mother survived with significant injuries and is being treated at the hospital while the truck driver was unscathed. The terrible accident occurred just one day after four individuals perished in a car accident on the same road.

Motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes because the road is temporarily closed.
