George Floyd’s 4-Year-Old Grandniece Shot While Sleeping in Her Bed on New Year’s Day

According to a news release from the City of Houston, a 4-year-old girl, who has purportedly been identified as George Floyd’s grandniece, was shot while asleep in her bed in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

The gunshot happened just before 3 a.m. on Saturday.

“A suspect or suspects fired numerous rounds into an apartment at the above address while four people and two children were inside,” HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives A. Carroll and J. Roberts said in a statement.

“One of the kids was hit in the torso. She was driven to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle, where she underwent surgery and is now in stable condition. “The statement goes on.

“At this point, there is no suspect description or motivation in the shooting,” Detectives A. Carroll and J. Roberts add.

Although authorities have yet to identify the little victim, the Houston Chronicle adds that the youngster, whose name is supposedly Arianna, is a relative of Floyd.

Tiffany Cofield, a family friend, also told the newspaper that Arianna is recuperating “by God’s grace.”

CSU World Records contacted the Houston Police Department for more information but had not received a response as of publication.

Arianna was brought to the hospital with a pierced lung and liver, as well as three broken ribs, according to KTRK’s Mycah Hatfield, and is “on the mend,” according to her father.

“I am aware of and concerned about the delay in reaction time in this situation,” Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said in a statement issued on Tuesday on the Houston Police Department’s official Twitter account.

“I beg the city to continue to pray for the child’s full recovery and to assist in providing information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects involved,” Finner added.

Anyone with info on the shooting should contact the Major Assaults and Family Violence Division of the Houston Police Department at 713-308-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
