In an early December homicide in Broussard, an 18-year-old suspect was apprehended.
According to the Broussard Police Department, the suspect, Jamiah Xavier Celestine, surrendered to the United States Marshal’s Task Force on Thursday and was later placed into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a charge of second-degree murder.
Celestine is charged with the murder of Diondre Williams, a 21-year-old man.
At 9:10 p.m. on Dec. 8, Broussard officers went to a complaint of gunshots near Gustave and Leon streets and discovered Williams suffering from numerous gunshot wounds at a nearby home. Officers treated him until emergency medical professionals arrived; according to BPD, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the spot.
According to online jail records, Celestine’s bond is currently set at $300,000.
