Police Say They Found Small Hazardous Device in Stolen U-Haul in Lexington Neighborhood

In the Lexington area, police said they discovered a tiny dangerous device in a stolen U-Haul.

Police in Lexington said they discovered a tiny dangerous device in a stolen U-Haul in the Cardinal Valley area Wednesday afternoon and were able to defuse the situation without any injuries or more occurrences. Authorities received a tip about the stolen automobile and found it on Cambridge Drive, according to police.

Officers discovered a tiny makeshift box of dangerous items in the car during the follow-up investigation. According to authorities, the area was then roped off, and the hazardous device team was sent to the site. Although the incident was resolved, a portion of Cambridge Drive remained closed for a few hours as a result of the operation.

The device’s nature remained unknown to the police. In connection with the incident, William Fields, 42, and Brandi Sanders, 27, were booked into the Fayette County Detention Center later Wednesday.

Fields were charged with stealing a car worth $10,000 to $1 million, third-degree use of a weapon of mass destruction, and one drug-related offense. Sanders was charged with receiving stolen items worth $10,000 or more on one count.
