Will Smith announced his resignation from the Academy of Motion Picture Science and Art on Friday night or less a week after smacked Chris Rock. Slapping Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony was terrible, hurtful, and unjustified conduct on his part, he said. To ensure that he never again succumbs to the onslaught, he said, “I’ll put in the time and effort to make a difference” Academy President David Rubin announced that Smith’s resignation had been received and accepted. Smith had already submitted his resignation to the Academy. Disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for alleged infractions of the Academy’s Code of Conduct will continue.
