DES MOINES, Iowa (CSU) — The city of Des Moines, Iowa, has declared a state of emergency. Governor Kim Reynolds says Iowans can expect more tax cuts, proposed new laws to encourage unemployed Iowans to find work, additional education reform measures such as a parental bill of rights, and proposals to address a teacher and child care worker shortage.
The Republican governor and legislative leaders spoke at the annual pre-session legislative forum hosted by the Iowa Capitol Press Association on Tuesday.
Personal income tax cuts, proposals to re-employ unemployed Iowans, and a parental bill of rights that provides parents with information about what is taught in schools and opportunities to review whether books in libraries are age-appropriate will be legislative priorities.
