Since the fantasy drama won’t return in 2023, House of the Dragon’s Daemon will have plenty of time to finish the Great Valyrian Songbook with Vermithor, according to an HBO official.
The popular Game of Thrones prequel series is expected to return for Season 2 “sometime in ’24,” according to Casey Bloys, chief content officer of HBO and HBO Max. He told Vulture, “We’re just starting to put the plan together, and just like last time, there are so many unknowns. You don’t want to say it will be ready on this date and then have to move it, so don’t be cryptic or secretive about it.
Bloys seemed to be very adamant about one thing, though: “Don’t anticipate it in 2023.”
The first season of House of the Dragon came to an end on Sunday with an episode in which [Spoiler alert!] Rhaenyra gave birth to a stillborn daughter, was crowned queen, and discovered that Aemond Targaryen and his dragon had killed her middle son, Lucerys. After that, co-showrunner Ryan Condal declared that the series would never longer change the casts of major characters or jump around in the history of Westeros. The executive producer announced, “I will say, as a gift to our fantastic audience for following us through all the time hops and recasts, they are done. “From this point on, we tell the story in real time.”
