Man Dies After Being Shot in Stomach During Argument in Fifth Ward, Police Say

An disagreement in the Fifth Ward resulted in the fatal shooting of a man in the stomach, according to the police.

HOUSTON — According to the Houston Police Department, a man has passed away after being shot in the stomach during what may have been a gunfight in the Fifth Ward.

The incident took place on Friday night about 11:30 p.m. on Farmer Street, which is located close to the East Freeway.

As first responders were making their way to the scene, they were informed that a guy had arrived with several gunshot wounds to the stomach. On the spot, a medical examiner determined that he had passed away.

After two persons got into a dispute in the vicinity, the victim, who police say looks to be an innocent bystander, was attacked. Lt. Ignacio Izaguirre of the Houston Police Department stated that there was evidence at the scene of a suspected gunfight.

Another individual engaged in the altercation was shot in the leg and sent to the hospital, where the police report that he is in stable condition despite his injury.

The Homicide Division of the HPD is currently conducting an investigation into the event and is looking for any security video from the surrounding area.
