36 Lebanese women of varying ages make up The Mayyas, an all-female alternative dance company that was created by choreographer Nadim Cherfan. The Mayas are from Lebanon. Their primary theme is emancipation for women. Their name comes from an Arabic word that literally translates to “the proud walk of a lioness,” and it was chosen because of this association. Building a career in Lebanon has been challenging, particularly for female dancers, which is why it was essential for the group to compete on the most prominent stage of AGT and demonstrate to the rest of the world what Arab women are capable of doing.
Tonight marked the end of Season 17 of “America’s Got Talent,” which was broadcast from the Pasadena Civic Center and featured a memorable finale featuring judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and Heidi Klum, as well as host Terry Crews.
