$786 K Is Allocated to Projects in Mid-Michigan to Lower Crime

CSU- FLINT, Michigan Local initiatives that aim to promote public safety and reduce crime will receive federal support.

On Wednesday, Congressman Dan Kildee announced that 10 community projects in the middle of Michigan would get money.

The Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office and the Inmate Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education (IGNITE) programme will each receive $786,000 to assist their respective initiatives in restorative justice.

According to Kildee, the initiatives increase public safety and assist reduce recidivism rates.

Inmates in the Genesee County Jail can complete a high school education through the IGNITE programme, allowing them to reintegrate into society after serving their sentences.

Kildee emphasised how crucial this component of the initiative was. “To prevent the court system from serving as a merry-go-round where people can enter and exit it multiple times. This is an opportunity for a fresh start.

Sheriff Chris Swanson, District Attorney David Leyton, and County Board of Commissioners Chairperson Domonique Clemons all spoke with Kildee at the announcement.
