Following the seizure of a gun and ammo by police, a man will appear in court tomorrow.
Members of the Crime Gangs Task Force visited a Wingfield company on Friday, July 22, as part of their ongoing inquiry into the Comanchero Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.
When police checked a car at the address, they discovered a handgun and a package of ammo hidden inside.
The ammo and firearm, which had a serial number that had been partially removed, were confiscated for forensic analysis.
Further investigation led to the Friday, July 29 arrest of a 38-year-old Glenelg man by Crime Gangs Task Force investigators at Adelaide Airport. He was accused of failing to store ammunition separately from a firearm and of possessing a weapon while not properly licenced.
He will appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on August 1 despite not having requested bail.
“Firearms trafficking is a very severe offence, and Police will continue to investigate and combat it with as many resources as are necessary,” said Detective Chief Inspector Darren Fielke, Acting Officer in Charge Serious and Organized Crime Branch. In particular, when they are in the hands of criminals, illegal firearms have no place in the community. Police want anyone with information about this event or other unauthorised firearms to get in touch with them.
The origins of this specific handgun before it was seized by cops are now unknown because a forensic examination of it has not been completed.
