These Neighborhoods Account for Half of Denver’s Violent Crime

Colorado (CSU) – The previous ten years, particularly the last two, have seen an increase in the violent crime rates in Denver. Only a small portion of the city’s 78 neighbourhoods account for the majority.

According to the Denver Police Department’s figures, this year has already seen close to 2,800 violent assaults, robberies, and killings. Compared to Denver’s urban core and southwestern districts, the high-income areas east of Broadway and south of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard see significantly lower rates of violent crime.

These areas are home to 50% of the violent crimes committed in the city:

Urban Center

Green Valley Ranch/Gateway

Hampden

Park Lincoln

Montbello

Eastern Park Hill

Downtown Park (Stapleton)

Station Union

House Park

west clifton

Westwood

Five Points, Denver’s most dangerous neighbourhood, maintains its multi-year dominance with 210 violent offences. Union Station is a major hub for public transportation and urban nightlife.

The I-70 bordering communities of Montbello, Green Valley Ranch, and Central Park (Stapleton) are ranked second, third, and sixth, respectively, for violent crime.

Seventh after its northern neighbour, Central Park, is East Colfax. The majority of Denver’s other violent neighbourhoods are located in the southwest corner of the city.
