Lakers Rumors: Rasheed Wallace Agrees to Join Darvin Ham’s Coaching Staff

Rasheed Wallace has agreed to join Darvin Ham’s coaching staff, according to Lakers rumours. The Los Angeles Lakers have allegedly agreed to have Rasheed Wallace join Darvin Ham’s coaching team.

According to Jason Munz of the Memphis News, Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway stated that Wallace joining the Lakers was “probable.” Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium broke the news.

“We have not yet reached a formal contract stage,” Charania said of Wallace and the Lakers.

Wallace worked as an assistant coach under Hardaway last season, but due to health and safety standards, he had to work remotely in the second half of the year. The 47-year-old also spent a year with the Detroit Pistons as an assistant coach.

He is best known for his 16-year NBA career, during which he was selected to four All-Star games. In 2004, he was a key contributor to the Pistons’ NBA championship.

Wallace and Ham were teammates in Detroit from 2003 to 2005, during Ham’s eight-year NBA tenure.

After four years as an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks, the Lakers introduced Ham as the team’s new head coach last week. After spending 2011-13 on the Lakers’ coaching staff under Mike Brown, he also worked for the Atlanta Hawks.

Los Angeles is hopeful that the hire would help the team improve after finishing 33-49 in the Western Conference last season. When healthy, LeBron James and Anthony Davis constitute the team’s core and are good enough to build a contender on their own.

Wallace, who played against James early in his career, may provide another seasoned voice in the locker room as the Lakers try to live up to their lofty goals.
