Local Man Wanted After Hit and Run Crash

A traffic collision at the junction of Fifth Street and Main on Monday morning damaged two automobiles, and the driver is still on the loose.

A blue 2005 Chrysler 300 was heading north on Fifth Street at a high rate of speed when it collided with a red 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup at the Main Street intersection at around 9:29 a.m. on Monday, according to Marshalltown Chief Mike Tupper.

Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) officers tried to conduct a traffic stop a few minutes before the incident, and Jose Eduardo Victor, 31, of Marshalltown, was driving the Chrysler. Tupper stated the cops “ceased their attempts to halt the automobile” after Victor fled at a fast speed.

Victor continued driving for another block after hitting the truck at the Main Street junction before slamming into a home yard at the State and Main Street intersection. Victor, who had been detained on felony warrants as part of a Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force investigation last Wednesday, left the area on foot and had not been captured as of press time.

The truck driver was not critically hurt, according to Tupper, and the investigation is continuing with the help of the Iowa State Patrol. The crossroads of Main and Fifth Streets, as well as State and Fifth Street, were blocked for many hours before being reopened by Monday afternoon.

The MPD is attempting to find Victor and is urging members of the public to phone (641) 754-5725 if they have any information. Marshall County Crime Stoppers may also be reached by dialing (641) 753-1234 or texting “Marshall” followed by the tip to 274637.
