19 Arrested in Lake County Crime Crackdown, Sheriff Says

ROWN POINT, CALIFORNIA — According to Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr., a multijurisdictional police campaign targeting at vehicle thefts, drugs, and violent crimes resulted in the detention of 19 persons.

The nighttime crackdown on April 5 was carried out by offices with more than a half-dozen agencies.

Three Indiana residents were detained by Merrillville police officers, two for outstanding warrants and one for a drug crime.

Martinez said St. John police arrested an Indiana citizen on an outstanding warrant.

According to the sheriff, Hammond police arrested two people on non-extraditable warrants and one person on an outstanding warrant, as well as assisting Illinois State Police in their pursuit of the two juvenile carjacking suspects. Later, Indiana State Police joined the chase, and the culprits were apprehended.

Martinez added, “I am really proud of the joint effort of police from each agency who engaged in this crackdown.” “By keeping our Lake County community secure, we are truly making a difference.”
