Miami-Dade Police Officer Under Investigation for Alleged ‘crime Against a Child’

COUNTY OF MIAMI-DADE, FLORIDA – The Miami-Dade Police Department said on Thursday that a police officer has been dismissed from duty and is being investigated for an alleged crime against a minor. Investigators are questioning the officer, according to Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, after the department initiated an inquiry in coordination with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.

“A crime against a kid is unacceptably cruel and inexcusable, and it will never be tolerated.” In a statement, Director George A. Perez said, “It sickens me to find that one of our law enforcement personnel is implicated in breaking that trust.”

Perez also stated that he is committed to a transparent process and that the agency will keep the public informed about the investigation.

The complete statement from the director:

“Our children rely on us to keep them safe and secure. A crime against a kid is terrible and will never be accepted, not just by a law enforcement officer but also by a father. It makes me sick to learn that one of our police officers is implicated in a betrayal of trust. We will maintain openness with our community and share updates as the inquiry progresses.”
