Man Threatening Woman with Knife Shot by Texas City Officer, Police Say

TEXAS CITY, TX (CSU) — A Texas City police officer shot a guy who was threatening a woman with a knife on Friday, according to the law enforcement agency. Around 3:25 p.m., this occurred in the 1100 block of 5th Avenue North.

Officers rushed to the area in response to a family disturbance and discovered a guy, 72-year-old Juan Benard Benavides, Jr., threatening a woman with a knife, according to police. Benavides was reportedly given repeated commands by officers, but he refused to respond.

According to police, one cop then fired his firearm at Benavides, wounding him in the stomach. The woman was able to remove herself from Benavides without more injury as a result of this.

Benavides’ gunshot wound was treated at a local hospital. At this time, his current state is unknown.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this CAse.
