Man who has since died Three hotel staffers were murdered in the 1980s, and the killer was identified.
On Tuesday, Indiana State Police identified a now-deceased man as the suspect in the rape and murder of three women working as hotel clerks in Indiana and Kentucky in the late 1980s. A laboratory study of crime scene evidence conclusively identified Harry Edward Greenwell, who died in January 2013, as “the I-65 murderer,” according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Glenn Fifield. Greenwell was connected to the murders of Vicki Heath, who was working a night shift at the Super Eight Hotel in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, on Feb. 21, 1987, and Mary “Peggy” Gill and Jeanne Gilbert on March 3, 1989, according to Fifield. Gilbert was assassinated in a Days Inn in Remington, Indiana, while Gill was assassinated at a Days Inn in Merrillville, Indiana, while working the night shift.
