After a 3-year-old was discovered strolling on north Providence Road with a dog on Sunday morning, a Columbia mother was charged with child abuse.
A prosecutor in Boone County has charged Aliciana Hill with endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree, child abuse or neglect, and possession of a controlled narcotic. Columbia police responded to a complaint of a three-year-old boy wandering alone with his dog at North Providence Road and Amazon Drive early Sunday morning.
According to a Columbia police Facebook post, the boy only identified himself by his first name.
According to court records, the boy was not dressed appropriately for the conditions and continued telling authorities he was chilly. According to police, the youngster was in their possession for three and a half hours before Hill reported her child missing.
Police said they went to Hill’s home in the 100 block of Antelope Drive and gained permission to undertake a walkthrough. Hill was allegedly attempting to conceal drug paraphernalia, according to court filings. According to court filings, police discovered over 500 used needles, meth, and 45 used needles containing blood and meth.
Hill said police she used Benadryl to help her sleep and was sleeping when the youngster left the house during a post-Miranda interview.
Hill is now being detained without bail at the Boone County Jail.
Hill does not have a counsel, according to online court records.
