Teen Arrested on Hate Crime Charge in Connection with Alleged Group Beating of Hasidic Man in Brooklyn

(CSU)A 16-year-old was detained in Brooklyn on Friday in connection with an alleged gang attack on a Hasidic man, according to police. The adolescent who was detained on accusations of gang assault and assault as a hate crime was not identified by police.

According to the NYPD, the incident is being regarded as a hate crime and is being investigated by the department’s hate crimes task force. According to police, a victim, 21, was approached by a group of six people at 58 Gerry Street who were all strangers to him.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has directed the State Police’s hate crime task team to assist with the investigation “in any manner feasible,” according to a tweet.

Hochul wrote, “I’m shocked by this act of violence against a Jewish New Yorker.” “Attacking one of us is an assault on all of us,” says the narrator.

According to a tweet from NYPD Crime Stoppers on Saturday, a $3,500 reward was given for any information on the event.

According to a tweet from an ADL representative, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is also offering a reward of up to $10,000 for anybody with information leading to the arrest and conviction of those engaged in the attack.

In a statement, Scott Richman, ADL’s regional director for New York and New Jersey, stated, “Nobody should be exposed to vicious violence on the streets of New York.”

“We must do all we can to assist authorities in identifying and apprehending those guilty,” Richman said, adding that “we must also work together to prevent these instances from happening in the first place.” “All New Yorkers deserve a safer and more inclusive city.”

According to the dashboard of the NYPD’s hate crimes task force, there were 198 instances and 58 arrests in New York City in 2021 involving Jewish victims of hate crimes. In 2020, there were 121 incidents and 25 arrests.
