MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE (CSU) – On Sunday, March 27, the Memphis Police Department responded to a mother, Tinesha Jackson, who took her 3-year-old son, Bryson Jackson, to Methodist Hospital South after he received a gunshot wound to the head.
Bryson passed away as a result of his injuries. Bryson and his 4-year-old brother were left at home with their uncle, Michael Goodman, while their mother, Tinesha, went on a food run with her friend, Tedrick Butler, according to the affidavit.
Tinesha drove Bryson to the hospital after calling the cops when she got home.
Tinesha claims Butler, the AR-15’s owner, left the weapon in her bedroom on top of a box covered in clothes at the foot of her bed.
Tinesha was allegedly aware that the pistol was unlocked, according to the affidavit.
Butler faces charges of criminally negligent homicide, possession of a restricted weapon, evidence tampering, and possession with intent to sell. The amount of his bond is set at $200,000.
Tinesha was detained, but she was freed shortly after. She was accused with homicide by criminal negligence.
Goodman, who claimed he was sleeping on the couch when the incident occurred, was startled awake when he heard a gunshot. Goodman discovered Bryson on the floor near the AR-15 and the storage box at the foot of his mother’s bed, according to the affidavit.
Investigators arrived at the property on 493 Tonawanda Cv. after obtaining a search warrant. Investigators discovered empty cartridge casings, a backpack containing marijuana, and marijuana in Tinesha’s bedroom closet, according to the affidavit.
Two AR-style pistols and one Glock 9mm pistol that had been unlawfully modified to a fully automatic firearm were discovered outside behind the property, according to MPD.
Butler was transferred to 170 N. Main St. to be interrogated further. Butler allegedly waived his rights, confessing to owning the black backpack, two AR-style firearms, and a Glock 9mm pistol, according to the affidavit.
Butler is also accused of tampering with evidence by reportedly transporting the pistols from the bedroom to the back of the house before the MPD arrived.
