Man Pleads Guilty to Hate Crime in Huntington Beach (2)

For a racially motivated assault on a liquor shop clerk in Huntington Beach, a 51-year-old Garden Grove man pled guilty Tuesday and was sentenced to three years in prison on the spot.

Ralph Stanford Davis III, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, made a derogatory remark about the victim’s apparent race before punching him in the face on Dec. 12 as the clerk attempted to close the store.

Davis pled guilty to two felonies: inflicting harm on an elderly person and violating civil rights causing violent injury, as well as a misdemeanour charge of unauthorised interference with a vehicle.

According to court documents, Davis also agreed to receiving a sentence enhancement for a hate crime.
