Papillion man at center of huge animal seizure case arrested

NEBRASKA (CSU) – PAPILLION, Neb. An animal cruelty complaint has been filed against a Papillion man who had hundreds of animals evacuated from his property last year.

According to Steve Glandt of the Humane Society at the time of the animals’ arrest, the creatures were kept in filthy cages and had apparently not been eaten “for quite some time.”

The Nebraska Humane Society took 665 creatures from Luben’s house in December, according to court papers, including exotic birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. According to the court filings, at least 69 of the animals died, and two more had to be killed due to injuries.

Deputy Sarpy County Attorney Dominique Jones stated in a written statement, “These creatures were living in horrific circumstances.” “As a result of their living circumstances, many of them were extremely malnourished or had physical limitations.”

The animals were living in filthy cages and had reportedly not been fed “for quite some time,” according to Steve Glandt of the Humane Society at the time of the animals’ capture.

Luben’s preliminary hearing will take place on April 12th. 10% of $10,000 was established as his bail
